Yearly Math Overview!

I’ve come up with a plan for math that should last for the entire year.  I know I will have to adjust, rearrange, and change things up as the year goes on, BUT I want to have a tentative schedule that I can use while planning.  My district gives us a lot of guidance when it comes to knowing when to teach what we teach, but I like to get a little bit more detailed for my classroom and break it into a weekly focus.
I took a few things into consideration while making this plan…
1.  Our new math standards in Texas
2.  Following along with my district schedule
3.  Giving my students plenty of time to master the concepts
What you won’t see included…
1.  Math Stations (I do those by seasons normally or just pull games to go along with each concept)
2.  Basic Fact practice, Daily Word Problems, etc.
I have made this a clickable document so you can easily see what I use to teach each concept.  Some things are new to me… like an open number line and financial literacy, so I will have to learn as I go.  Other things I have done in the past so I know they will work well with my new students.  I am always scouring Pinterest, Blogs, and TpT for new ideas and lessons to keep my stuff fresh and current.  My lesson plans definitely evolve over the years!
As I meet with my team this may definitely change, but I needed a starting point!  I am also working on a yearly plan for Reading and Grammar, so those should be posted next week!  In the meantime, check on what other teachers have planned in their classrooms!

  1. Hi Amy! 🙂
I'm Tamara from Mrs. Russell's Room! We met briefly in Las Vegas this summer! 😉 This week, I am behind you in DeeDee's linky! 🙂 I teach first, and it was really neat to take a look at what is to come for the little ones I sent up last year! 🙂 I wrote the scope for my team last year, and I KNOW how long it takes to flesh out! Thanks for sharing your thinking with your pacing! I'll have to see about posting mine at some point too! 😉 You've inspired me! 🙂
I hope your summer wraps up well! 🙂
    XOXO,
    Tamara

  2. Hi Amy, I have a few questions! First, do you teach all of your math concepts using packets from TpT only? Do you have a required math series? For instance, we use the go math series, and I do not know how there would be enough time to complete all of this extra reinforcement. We have pacing charts that go with the series (from the district), so I am just trying to figure out how you do this at your school in Texas. Thanks for the help.

  3. Thanks so much! I'm a Texas teacher new to second grade and this just gave me such a peace of mind having the Math TEKS mapped out like this! Can't wait to see Reading and Grammar!

  4. Amy – this is awesome! I am moving to second grade AND teach in the Houston area. We just adopted a new math series and will be using Harcourt. What math series does your district use? Thanks!!
