Frogs, Kevin Henkes, and Reading Spirals....

This post is going to seem a little choppy and all over the place, because that's pretty much how my time at school has been lately!  The past two weeks I have only been at work on Monday and Tuesday of each week because of my little health scare.  So, I'm going to show you the little that I got accomplished with my kiddos in the time that I did have with them!

Last week we were comparing fiction/nonfiction stories using Frog and Toad Are Friends and nonfiction stories about frogs.  My kids absolutely LOVED Frog and Toad!  We made these cute little frogs and toads from Mrs. H that you can find {HERE}.  The plan was to do some other fun and cute activities, but that just didn't happen!  Sometimes, you just have to let things go :)

Moving on to this week...

We have been working on Plot Structure (Beginning, Middle, and End) while reading books by Kevin Henkes.  I found this cute Wemberly craft {HERE} and I paired it with an activity from The Teacher Wife's Reading Comprehension Unit.  This activity was actually completed with the sub there, so it's always interesting to see how things get put together :)  I went up to the school one afternoon to get cleaned up and organized for my next few days off so I decided to go ahead and hang these up!

We have been using our ELA spirals ALOT lately.  After reading, "Julius, Baby of the World" we made this cute little BME booklet from the Teacher Wife, glued that into our spiral, and illustrated underneath!
After Reading Lily's Big Day (which can be viewed online HERE), I gave each student 3 notecards.  We glued those into our ELA spiral and wrote the BME of the story.  Super simple and easy!
In Science, my kids were learning about dental health/hygiene.  So, my teaching partner had them make these little cuties that you can find {HERE} in English or Spanish!
Hopefully I'll be back at work on Monday, refreshed and renewed to have some really great ideas!

Amy, how scary that episode must have been for you! I hope everything works out well for you and you are in my prayers and thoughts. I hope you will keep me in your prayers because I am also facing a health issue that is creating a problem with my getting to teach. I was out of work for 4 and 1/2 days a week ago and struggled to make it to work this past week. I an having heart problems and breathing problems, so when I do make it to work, my colleagues are helping me out walking my students too and from where they need to be. They are such awesome teachers!! Anyway, I just wanted you to know I was praying for you and I know that missing school with your babies is so hard, it is for me.
