We used a lot of construction paper today!

It was another successful day in 2nd grade!  I actually followed my lesson plans today, and had a few extra activities left over by the end of the day.  Here are some of the things we did today!

I read "Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon" to the class and we talked about how Molly's grandma helped her feel special.  We also discussed how we are like Molly- all different and unique.

Each student made a sunflower to represent how they are unique.  On each petal, they wrote a sentence telling what made them special.  This really helped me see who could form sentences on their own, and who needed help!

This one makes me smile! (plus he's a teacher's kid, so I knew I could brag on him!)  I love that he put, "I'm always hungry" "I'm always thinking" "I'm always thirsty"

For Math, we started addition strategies.  Today, we learned the "Flip Flop" strategy and the kids made these cute little projects to show what they had learned.  I saw this sweet idea on pinterest, and just had to do it! Like the sunflower project, I had a flip flop and the toe piece pattern for each table (that I just free handed).  I gave the kids scrapbook paper for the flip flop and construction paper for the toe piece.  They just traced, cut out, and glued together!

Here's a close up!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

So cute! I'm so happy your first two days went well:) It makes me hopeful!!!

I have shared so many of your amazing things with my teammates and they are all asking for your blog address--they love your stuff!

Is there any way you could email me the number words PDF, please? Oh and I was also wondering if you had any calendar stuff in Spanish that you use? I've been trying to beef up my calendar this year. No worries if not--just thought I'd ask! Thanks:)
