Word Walls

In the Dual Language classroom our word walls are a little different than a regular classroom.  We have 2 word walls, one in English and one in Spanish.  This kind of threw me for a loop this year because it takes up so much space.  Plus, the Spanish has to be backed in red, while the English word wall has to be backed in blue.

Also, our students have to generate the 2 alphabets used in our classroom.  I didn’t want just to make my classroom in red and blue, so I tried to spice these up a bit.  Here’s a look at both my English and Spanish Word Walls:

English Word Wall and Student Generated Alphabet (please excuse the things blocking the view!)
Spanish Word Wall and Student Generated Alphabet:
The words in yellow were words brainstormed by my students (that is another part of our program).  Obviously they generate all of my Spanish word wall since I don’t speak the language!
I have already started to change these word walls for next year.  I made them a little smaller, so that I have 2 extra bulletin boards on each side of the room.  Plus, my skylight-which I love- has faded my English alphabet, so I have to change that out!  I also plan on typing the words for next year, but I was just trying to make it all work this year without being too particular!

  1. I will be teaching DL, English side, for first time this year. I have been working on the changes to my room. I love these word walls. I have modeled mine somewhat similar but have a question: Are those student alphabets on 8.5 x 11 sheets or on 11×13 construction paper sized sheets? I was going to try and do 8.5 x 11 and cut the guide letters on my cricut but not sure that leaves enough space for the student alphabet sheets. Just curious. Also, do you have any DL labeling products on tPt? I am about to get started on my classroom labeling and looking for all the help i can get:) Thanks
